Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. 1996, she joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as general reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell is a regular in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
